Which plastic screw head should I choose?

Choose a countersunk head for a flush surface, a hex or recessed drive for tool tightening, or a winged fixing for frequent hand adjustment.

• Hex head bolts take a spanner or socket around the outside of the head.
• Pan cross-head bolts have a raised head and a cross-head screwdriver drive.
• Countersunk cross-head bolts sit flush in a matching countersunk hole.
• Socket head bolts take a hex key through the centre of the head.
• Thumbscrews give a hand grip for panels, covers and access doors.
• Butterfly nuts and butterfly screws have wings for tightening and release by hand.

Which plastic fastener material should I choose?

Nylon PA66 combines strength, wear resistance and electrical insulation for enclosure and electronics work. It absorbs moisture, so prolonged wet exposure reduces its strength. Clear acrylic/polycarbonate is rigid and highly transparent, useful when a fixing remains visible.

Polypropylene provides electrical insulation and resists acids, alkalis, oils and solvents. It does not absorb water and has moderate impact resistance. For assemblies needing extra stiffness, glass filled nylon resists bending and holds its shape under load. It is more brittle than plain PA66.

What sizes and pack quantities can I choose?

Examples include M24 nylon hex head bolts, clear M6 and M8 hex head bolts in packs of 30, and natural PVDF socket head bolts in M3, M4, M5 and M6, supplied in packs of 10. Natural PEEK fasteners include hex, pan cross-head and socket head bolts in packs of five.

PEEK offers thermal stability up to 250 °C and resistance to hot water and steam. POM hex head bolts provide stiffness and low friction. PVC hex head bolts offer water resistance and resistance to outdoor weathering.
