Plastic hex head bolts provide lightweight, corrosion-free fastening for electrical enclosures, electronics, workshop work and repairs. The material options cover different needs, from electrical insulation and moisture resistance to clear finishes and high temperature use. Thread sizes and colours depend on the material.

Which plastic bolt material should I choose?

Nylon suits electrical enclosures, glass-filled nylon suits applications needing stiffness, and PEEK suits high temperatures. The material differences are:

  • Nylon (PA66) provides electrical insulation and high wear and impact resistance. Prolonged wet exposure can reduce its strength.
  • Glass-filled nylon (PA66-GF) resists bending and offers reduced moisture absorption. It is more brittle than plain nylon.
  • Polypropylene (PP) does not absorb water and provides electrical insulation. Its impact resistance is moderate.
  • PVC is water-resistant and resists outdoor weathering, acids, alkalis and oils.
  • Clear acrylic / polycarbonate provides high transparency for work where the fastener remains visible.
  • PEEK offers thermal stability up to 250 °C, high wear resistance and electrical insulation in heat.
  • PPS holds its shape and provides electrical insulation at high temperatures.
  • PTFE provides electrical insulation and low friction.
  • POM (acetal) is stiff, has low moisture absorption and provides low friction.

What sizes do plastic hex bolts come in?

Thread sizes run from M3 to M24 across the range as a whole. Natural glass-filled nylon covers M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M12, M16 and M20. Clear acrylic / polycarbonate bolts are M6 or M8, while natural PEEK bolts are M10 or M12. White POM bolts are M12 or M16. Natural PTFE and PPS bolts each cover M5, M6, M8 and M10.

PA66 sizes are M8, M10, M12, M16, M20 and M24. PP covers M8, M10, M12, M16 and M20; PVC covers M4, M5, M6, M8, M10 and M16. Lengths across the category span 16 mm to 170 mm, with packs of 3, 5, 10, 20, 30 or 50 depending on the product.
