Should I choose a piano hinge or a flexible hinge?

A piano hinge provides continuous support along its length. A flexible hinge moves through an integral bending section, often called a living hinge. Both constructions suit lids, cases, enclosures and lightweight panels.

  • Piano hinges with tape include black, clear and white versions, with pack quantities of four or ten depending on the hinge.
  • Flexible hinges with tape include black and clear versions, supplied in packs of two or four depending on the hinge.

Which adhesive hinge sizes are available?

Examples include 24 mm black piano hinges in packs of ten, 100 mm clear piano hinges in packs of four, and 500 mm clear or black flexible hinges in packs of two. Clear and black 1150 mm flexible hinges are also supplied in pairs.

For smaller boxes, a 50 mm flexible hinge provides a compact fitting in clear or black, supplied in packs of four. White piano hinge options include 32 mm and 45 mm lengths in packs of ten.

How are hinges with adhesive tape fitted?

The tape fixes the hinge leaves to the two mounting surfaces, allowing the lid or panel to move through the hinge. Position the adhesive contact faces on the mating parts with space for the intended opening movement.

Clear hinges suit display work where a discreet fixing matters. The plastic bodies are lightweight, electrically insulating and non-magnetic. Their corrosion-free construction is useful for cases and enclosures, and the choice of colour helps match the hinge to the finished assembly.
