As the third most widely manufactured plastic after polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE), PVC is synthesised by suspension polymerisation of the vinyl chloride monomer. Polyvinyl chloride is strong, durable and resistant to oxidation and weathering. Its chlorine content gives it natural flame resistance. PVC also offers good impact and abrasion resistance and excellent chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, oils and most inorganic chemicals.
