PTFE is a fluoropolymer used in chemical, electrical and mechanical applications for its electrical insulation, non-adhesive surface and low friction. It provides high dielectric strength and a low dielectric constant. Its typical continuous-use temperature is 260 °C (500 °F); suitability depends on the application. PTFE is durable and flexible, with average tensile strength but remarkable chemical resistance. It repels both water and oils. The material can deform under prolonged loads, so it should not be used where high structural strength is required.
